How to Organize Your Knitting with Cocoknits Accessories

As any knitter or crocheter can attest, a passion for the fibers arts usually involves accumulating a whole lot of yarn, notions, and tools - and unfinished projects! To reign in the crafty chaos, these things need a little organizing. Here are a few tips from us.

Let's Get Organized!

1

Sort your Patterns

A

Maker's Board

The Maker's Board makes pattern reading easy! No more crumpled, folded pages or forgetting your place. It has internal metal sheets and 9 included magnets so you can pin up your pattern pages - and hold small metal tools! You can also quickly refer to a chart and the written pattern at the same time by pinning your chart to the face-forward panel and your written pattern to the bottom panel (see Julie demonstrate this).

Project Portfolio

Inspired by the Japanese travel journal, the Project Portfolio was designed to neatly contain loose-leaf papers, journals, books, and tablets all together. The interior spine elastics can hold magazines, books, a Maker’s Board and folded papers. There are two interior pockets, including an accordion pocket that's handy for stashing papers and other loose items. The whole thing is held closed with an elastic, and more colors are included so you can customize it!

Project Keeper

A handy archive of your past and present projects, neatly organized in a cute retro-style file box! Knitting, crochet, quilting, needlework, and more - record the tools, pattern, sizes, materials, recipient, and other important information on a tag. Keep the tag with the project for notes on the go (and to keep track of which WIP is which!), then file in the Project Keeper when complete. The folders can also hold a swatch, yarn labels, fabric samples and other materials.

Tidy your Notions

A

Project Wallet

If you've ever felt the pain if realizing you left a vital tool at home while taking your project on the go, the Project Wallet will assure it never happens again. Fill it up with every notion and needle you need for a specific project. It has 11 pockets with 3 removable tab folders, so you can sort your tools and easily access the tiniest ones by lifting the folder. The accordion shape and button-and-cord closure means it expands as needed but stays slim enough to toss in your bag.

B

Accessory Roll

Our original notions organizer! The Accessory Roll has four triangle compartments attached by snaps so you can sort your notions however you like. Roll it up to take the whole bundle with you, or unsnap a compartment and take just what you need. Like the Project Portfolio, it includes different colored elastics that you can easily swap.

Notions Holder Collection

Keep your side table tidy and your tools in place. The Notions Holder Collection includes 3 pieces sold separately: The Tray, Dish, and Cup. The Tray and Dish have embedded magnets to cling onto small metal tools - no more messy spills from accidental bumps! Julie specifically engineered the angle of the raised edge to make stitch marker retrieval smooth and easy. The Cup has a weighted metal base so that it can stick onto a tray or dish and prevent it from tipping over when holding tall tools like DPNs and pencils. All three pieces are made with biodegradable plant-based PLA. Use them together or separately!

Maker's Keep

Our original magnetic minder, the Maker's Keep has been a fan favorite since we released it in 2012. Streamline your knitting process by keeping your stitch markers, tapestry needle, Yarn Snip, and more right at hand. No more rummaging around in the bottom of your bag or between the couch cushions. The silicone slap bracelet goes on and off your wrist in a single motion, and the underside has 4" (10 cm) of ruler markings.

Maker's Clips

Small and simple, but surprisingly handy! The silicone Maker's Clips come in a pack of two and have magnets on each end. Use them to hold a pencil on your Maker's Board, cling onto a cluster of stitch markers, tidy up your circular needles, and so much more. These little marvels will keep your tools right where you want them!

Kraft Caddy

The Kraft Caddy was designed to have as many pockets as possible - on the inside and the outside - so you can organize all your bits and bobs how you want. The center is wide open for your knitting projects, and the whole thing can fit rght down inside a tote. Keep it on a shelf or desk as a storage bin without handles, or add the leather handles (sold separately) so you can grab it for travel.

Natural Mesh Bag

The Mesh Bag will keep a yarn cake (or two) tidy and tangle-free inside your project bag. If you're holding two strands of yarn together, you can orient the opening snaps to keep each strand in order. It's made of woven, washable paper fabric which is sturdy, yet lightweight.

Kraft Bins

Tired of the bulk and rigidity of a typical plastic bin, we designed these eco-friendly Kraft Bins to be soft, lightweight, and easy to pack down flat. Available in three sizes, you can use them to store whatever you can think of! Each bin as tab loop to easily grab them off a shelf or hang them on hooks or pegs. The kraft paper fabric is machine washable and takes dye and ink beautifully!

D

Four Corner Bag

Finding the common drawstring project bag too one-dimensional and difficult to get into, the Four Corner Bag was designed to be roomy and unfussy. The square bottom makes it easy to set on a table without flopping over, and the longer leather handles mean you can hang it on the back of a chair, sling it over your arm, or hang it for storage.
