OUR

STORY

Cocoknits is based in Oakland, California. We are a small team of women who love to make things and love supporting other creative people and businesses. We believe all Makers should have beautiful, high-quality, tools to use in their craft. See our Company Statements for more about our mission and values.

Meet Julie

Cocoknits founder, Julie Weisenberger, learned to knit and completed her first sweater in college while studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria. She has been knitting and designing ever since. In the 1980s she ran her own knitwear company; in the 1990s she designed sweaters for yarn companies and magazines; and in 2007 she founded Cocoknits.com, her own pattern and tool company.

Over the years she has developed and perfected a unique top-down, seamless method of sweater knitting called the Cocoknits Method, and created a line of tools that make the process of knitting and Making easier and more beautiful. For the past decade Julie has been teaching classes throughout the United States and in Europe on the Cocoknits Method and selecting flattering knitwear styles for different body proportions. She lives in Oakland, California.

The Team

The Cocoknits Team works together on the day-to-day details and broader vision of the company. Our collaborative dynamic is a creative process – like knitting, but with spreadsheets and stuff.

Jessica Culligan

VICE PRESIDENT

Jessica's favorite tool is the Accessory Roll! She lives in New York, has been knitting for over 15 years, and has an MBA. If she's not geeking out about spreadsheets, then she's likely trying a new fiber craft.

Jennifer Hughes

WHOLESALE DIRECTOR

Jennifer comes from a long line of Makers and has been knitting since she learned from her mom at the age of eight. She holds a BFA in Fibers from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and may hold the land speed record for knitting in Berkeley, California. Jennifer also makes interesting objects that can be found at GreenWork Handmade

The Marketing Team

BRAND DIRECTOR & MARKETING MANAGER

Jane Veitenheimer, Brand Director, lives in Minnesota with her husband and two young sons. She's been an avid knitter for 10 years and designs patterns in her spare time.

Alix Callender, Marketing Manager, has been a zealous maker her entire life. She learned to knit as a teenager, and has since fallen in love with all things fiber craft. She fills the rest of her time with cooking (and eating), book club, art, rewatching The Office, and hiking around her homeland of Sonoma County, CA.

The Support Team

OPERATIONS SUPPORT MANAGER & CUSTOMER SUPPORT MANAGER

Edith Murphy, Operations Support Manager, teaches knitting and crochet online and in person through her company, Moss Brook Fiber Arts.  She also sells superfine fingering weight alpaca yarn at Yarn and Soul.

Tracy Russell, Customer Support Manager, was the cofounder of Black Sheep Yarns in Maryland, Sales Manager for Classic Elite Yarns, independent yarn rep, and close friend and co-teacher with Julie for more years than they like to say.
