THE

COCOKNITS

METHOD

Julie created the Cocoknits Method so people can try on garments as they knit and customize along the way, ultimately achieving the fit and style that they want. The Cocoknits Method combines English tailoring, seamless top-down knitting, and a signature Cocoknits Method Worksheet. This proprietary system is taught in the Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, in Julie’s On Demand Classes, and in the free tutorials on our website. It has been developed and refined over years of knitting, designing, and teaching thousands to knit, and we hope you enjoy learning it!

The Steps

The Steps

The Cocoknits Method uses top-down knitting that incorporates increases at specific intervals to create truly 3 dimensional shaping that doesn’t require seaming when you’re done. The neck, shoulders, and yoke are created together, and the shaping is softly sloped to hug the body in a flattering way, preventing the boxiness that often results when seaming squared pieces together.

1

Section I

Stitches are cast on for the back neck, and Julie’s preferred lifted increases (KLL, KRL, PLL, PRL) are worked to create the upper back.

2

Section II

Stitches are picked up from the sides of the upper back to create the right and left shoulders.

3

Section III

Stitches are worked across the left shoulder, picked up to create the left sleeve, worked across the back, picked up to create the right sleeve, and worked across the right shoulder. This is also where you will place colorful stitch markers to delineate each part of the sweater yoke. The colors will correspond to the vertical lines on your Cocoknits Worksheet in Section IV.

Section IV

The rest of the yoke is worked following your customized color-coded Cocoknits Worksheet. Your Worksheet will tell you where the shaping happens in relation to the markers (before or after). This color-coded worksheet streamlines the usual “at the same time” increases, so you can plan the yoke shaping and then simply knit row by row without referencing the pattern.https://cocoknits.com/products/cocoknits-sweater-workshop

Once the yoke is complete, the body and sleeves of your garment are worked seamlessly down to the hem and cuffs. It’s easy to try on your sweater as you work, and adjust if necessary. When the knitting is finished all you have to do is sew up the underarm, and your sweater is ready to wear! Another advantage to the Cocoknits  Method is that when you’ve completed your sweater, you’ll have a customized pattern to work again in a different yarn or colorway with all the shaping in the right places for you.
