This method is used anytime a left-leaning increase is required. The increased stitch is created before working the next stitch, or to the right of the stitch.

With your right needle, come from behind and scoop up the right loop of the āVā stitch just below the one on your left needle.
Lift this loop up onto your left needle.
Knit the loop. I have found that this method leaves a hole with some highly-twisted yarns. If this happens, knit this stitch through the back loop instead of the front loop.
