Pro Tips for Cocoknits Tools & Accessories

Our tools and accessories are made with beauty, functionality, and sustainability in mind. The designs are simple and often multifunctional - every maker is likely to use them in their own unique way. We have a few special tricks of our own we'd love to share.

Pro Tips

1

Multitask with the Maker's Clip

The Maker's Clip is a simple silicone band with magnets on both ends. Julie designed it to hold a pencil on her Maker's Board...but the uses are limitless! We love to multitask by using the silicone band to grip a pencil (or other tool) while also sticking small metal notions (like the Row Counter) to the magnets.

No board? No problem! You can use the clip on just your pattern or book.

2

Group Stitch Markers with a Magnet

Tool organizers like the Project Wallet and Accessory Roll are all about efficiency and easy access. To make stitch markers even easier to grab, toss in a small magnet so they all clump together. Then pull up the whole bundle, pick what you need, and drop it back in!

3

Fold Down the Kraft Bin

The Kraft Bins are made with soft (and machine washable) kraft paper fabric, so the top can be folded down if you want it shorter. The small bin is the perfect size for a cake of bulky yarn! Shown here inside the Kraft Caddy.

You can also use it as a succulent pot!

4

Separate Yarn Strands with Mesh Bag Snaps

The Natural Mesh Bag has 8 snaps at the top (4 on each side). The bag itself is soft and roomy and can hold 2–3 balls or cakes of yarn (depending on their size). Use the snaps to separate yarn for stranded colorwork and yarns held double!

5

Label Accessory Roll Compartments

The Accessory Roll has four triangular compartments that can be removed and reattached by their bottom snaps. To step up our organization game, we like to label each compartment! (Washi tape or this lab tape won't leave any sticky residue.) Watch Julie talk about this (plus a few other tips) here.

6

Use a Washing Bag or Pop-up Dryer to Help with Draining

When wet blocking or handwashing, squeezing water out of a soaked garment can be a bit clumsy. To make it easier, zip it up inside a Sweater Care Washing Bag! (See a demo here.) Alternatively, you can lay a flattened Pop-up Dryer over the sink to support the weight of the piece while you gently squeeze out the water.

7

Add Leather Handles to Other Bags

Our original and short Leather Handles were designed to be used with the Four Corner Bag and Kraft Caddy, respectively. But they are so easy to attach (and remove), you can add them to just about anything! Click here to see how Julie attached handles to a large Kraft Bin to make a bucket bag.

Slide the Maker's Board Inside the Project Portfolio

Julie designs our tools to work together - so of course the Maker’s Board fits perfectly inside the Project Portfolio! Simply slip the Board’s front panel through the Portfolio’s internal elastic band. The multifunctional Maker’s Board can be used as normal, now with added pockets and protection. See a demo on Instagram here.

9

Put a Kraft Caddy Inside a Tote Bag

If you're tired of digging around in the bottom of a floppy tote bag for your wallet or lip balm, just tuck a Kraft Caddy in the bottom. With twelve pockets, a wide center, and a sturdy square bottom, everything will stay right in its place. In the event of any accidental coffee spills, just toss the whole thing in the washing machine for easy cleanup!

10

Hang Kraft Bins by Their Tab Loops

All three Kraft Bin sizes have a 1.5" (4 cm) tab loop, so you can easily hang them on pegs or hooks for extra storage options.

Measure with the Maker's Keep Band

The slap-bracelet band of the Maker's Keep is 10" (25 cm) long and has ruler marks on the underside. Just slide the magnetic face off, flatten the band, and use it to measure whatever you need. It also comes in handy as a straightedge.

Bonus Tip

1

Wear the Jumbo Markers as Rings

Ok, this isn't really a functional tip - it's a fashionable one! When you aren't using our Jumbo Stitch Markers for chunky knits, they are adorable as colorful stacking rings.

A tape measure makes a good substitute for leather handles on a kraft caddy, secure the tape with buttons!
