Tillie plays with ribbing in two directions and has a lot of measurement adjustability written into the pattern. You can choose Version A, a sweater, shown with very long cuffs to allow for a deep fold up; sleeves can be shortened or lengthened as desired. Stitches are increased from cuff to underarm, worked across the yoke, then decreased from underarm to cuff on the second sleeve. Version B is a popover with very short sleeves that are full width at the ends and require no increases or decreases. Both versions are knit from the beginning of the left sleeve across the yoke to the end of the right sleeve.
Once the yoke is completed, stitches are picked up along the bottom edge and ribbing is worked that will hang vertically. Your swatch should be stretched out horizontally before measuring, as the top of the garment will pull the ribbing open. Version A has a split hem, Version B is split from the underarm down. There are two neckline choices as well, both start with ribbing, but in Version A it is folded to the inside and stitched down, whereas in Version B it is left as a cowl. Either neckline and body can be worked on either version.
