We are currently Knitting-a-Long on Beatriz. Join us!

Beatriz is designed with wide, dropped shoulders. The decorative cabled increases add a sweet, subtle detail to the Cocoknits Method shoulders on the back of the sweater. Beatriz also features deep ribbing on the hem of the body and sleeves and a wide, ribbed button band. The silhouette is oversized; it’s up to you HOW oversized! Choose anywhere from 4"/ 2.5 cm to 16" / 10 cm ease. In the photos, the model has around 8" / 20 cm of positive ease. Julie wears hers with 14" / 35.5 cm of positive ease. Are you aiming for a coat type cardigan that fits over everything? Go with more ease! Or do you want a closer fitting cardigan? Or something in between? Try measuring some similar items in your wardrobe to help inform the size you’ll knit... and then dive in!

The inspiration for the Beatriz cardigan came from a visit to Retrosaria Rosa Pomar during a Cocoknits’ textile retreat in Portugal. Based on the Casaco sweater and Rosa’s Badana cardigan pattern. Thank you to Rosa for encouraging Julie to write her own version!

Before Purchasing This Pattern

This sweater is worked using the Cocoknits Method, a commonsense system for knitting seamless, tailored sweaters from the top down. The Cocoknits Method is explained in detail in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop by Julie Weisenberger, in her On Demand Classes, and in tutorials on cocoknits.com.

All of the page numbers in this pattern refer to pages in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, where the techniques are explained in detail. Some knitters find that they can learn the new-to-them techniques with our free knit tutorials, while others are more comfortable purchasing an On Demand Class, or the Cocoknits Sweater Workshop book, available on our website and at many local yarn stores.
