Madeleine

$10.00 USD

Classic, French-inspired stripes lend Madeleine a sporty feel. The gentle A-line shape and slender sleeve make it easy to throw on over lightweight dresses and shirts when you need a bit of warmth. Snaps replace the usual buttons up the front for a cleaner finish, but you could, of course, add buttonholes and buttons.

As with most Cocoknits patterns, it's pretty straightforward to knit Madeleine at an alternate gauge - using either a thicker or thinner yarn. See Materials and Gauge for more details.

This is a Cocoknits Method pattern.

Before Purchasing This Pattern

This sweater is worked using the Cocoknits Method, a commonsense system for knitting seamless, tailored sweaters from the top down. The Cocoknits Method is explained in detail in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop by Julie Weisenberger.

All of the page numbers in this pattern refer to the pages in Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, where the techniques are explained in detail. Purchase Cocoknits Sweater Workshop or visit your local yarn store.

Needles and Notions

  • US 4-6 / 3.5-4mm for working Front band and neckband.

Notions

Gauge

18 sts and 28 rows = 4" / 10 cm square in St st on largest needles

NOTE: The yellow and cream model shown has a gauge of 16 sts and 24 rows to 4" / 10 cm. As noted above, Julie applied the method given in her tutorial “How to Modify Gauge” at cocoknits.com to use these instructions to knit a Madeleine at her chosen gauge. Following the directions as given with a gauge of 18 sts per 4" / 10 cm will produce sweaters with the measurements given under Finished Measurements.

Notes on Working Stripes

  • Change yarns every 4 rows throughout.
  • Don’t cut the yarn between stripes; instead instead carry the unused color up the edge of the work by bringing the new color over the old color at the beginning of the color-change row.

Errata

Sleeves

On p. 12, Next Rnd (Sleeve Dec Rnd) should read:

  • Next Rnd (Sleeve Dec Rnd): K2, ssk, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. 2 sts dec’d.
