Klaus is knitted in one piece starting with the bottom front. Continuing up, stitches are added and then bound off for the sleeves and the sweater continues down the back. Short rows are used to shape the sleeves.

Yarn

MC: Queensland Collection Kathmandu Aran 85% Merino Wool, 10% Silk, 5% Cashmere, 104 yds per 50 g skein

  • 9 (9, 10, 11, 13) skeins Brown

CC: small amounts as desired

Substitute any heavy worsted yarn with the same gauge.

Needles

  • Two US 9 circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge. (Note: because all sleeve and body sts are knitted at once, it is easiest to work with 2 long circ needles.)

14 sts and 21 rows = 4 in / 10 cm square in St st.

Errata

Join right and left sides and begin back

  • Second Paragraph
    • Next row (WS) With CC work as est to center rib marker, sl m, k2, p4, [k1, p1] over 26 newly CO sts, p4, k2, work as est to end of row. Work a further 5 rows with CC, working sts as they appear and match the stripe for front of sweater (one dark brown stripe in the 4th row if following sample).
  • Third Paragraph
    • Next WS row, switch to MC and work sts as est to center rib marker, remove m and p 15 (15, 15, 18, 18) sts, k2, p4, k2, p 15 (15, 15, 18, 18) sts, remove marker, work rem sts as est.

Begin short row shaping for sleeves

  • On next WS row, work across right sleeve sts, body sts and all but the last 10 (12, 7, 9, 11) sts of left sleeve, w&t. 
  • On RS work to last 10 (12, 7, 9, 11) of right sleeve, w&t.
  • *WS: Work across sts leaving an additional 6 (6, 7, 7, 7) sts each time, w&t.
  • RS: Work across sts leaving an additional 6 (6, 7, 7, 7) sts each time, w&t.*
  • Repeat between *s until the last 6 sts of each sleeve. (9 short rows).
