How to Slip Slip Purl (ssp)

Slip Slip Purl (ssp) is a decrease technique typically worked on the purl side of stockinette. Just like SSK, it creates a left-leaning stitch on the knit side.

Here we'll show you how to work ssp both Continental (picking) and English (throwing) style.

How to...

1

Continental / Picking Style

A

Working from the purl side, slip two stitches from left hand (LH) needle to the right hand (RH) needle as if to knit. This will twist the stitches.

B

Slip those two stitches back onto the LH needle.

C

Purl these two stitches together through the back loop. (This means your RH needle will first enter through the back loop of the second stitch on the LH needle, then the first stitch.)

D

All done! On the knit side, you'll see you've created a left-leaning decrease.

2

English / Throwing Style

A

Working from the purl side, slip two stitches from left hand (LH) needle to the right hand (RH) needle as if to knit. This will twist the stitches.

B

C

D

All done! On the knit side, you'll see you've created a left-leaning decrease.
